Recommendation for the countercyclical capital buffer (FMSG/1/2017)
In line with § 23a para 1 of the Austrian Banking Act, the Financial Market Stability Board (FMSB) recommends that the Financial Market Authority (FMA) maintain the countercyclical capital buffer rate of 0% of risk-weighted assets. The main indicator, which reflects credit volume relative to gross domestic product, is negative and, therefore, does not point to excessive credit growth. The FMSB continues to closely monitor supporting indicators.
Note: Because of the transition from ESA 95 to ESA 2010 the loan aggregate time series is currently available only back until 1998. The usual time series (back until 1992) should be available in time for the FMSB’s twelfth meeting.
